Bring the outdoors inside with this free and easy hack! This is the perfect DIY project for all of you nature lovers, and the perfect window treatment refresh. Next time you go for a walk in the woods or have fallen tree branches in your yard, save a couple somewhat straight, approximately 4’+ x 1″ – 2″ thick branches. The length of branch will depend on the size of your window. Find a sturdy hook or curtain rod holder that the branch can fit in and strong enough to hold the weight of rod and curtain. Trim the branch to desired size, attach to hooks/curtain rod holders and voila!
Utility Sink Rack
Reclaim some of the space over the utility sink in the laundry room. I have seen inserts for kitchen sinks, but couldn’t find anything for utility sinks. I discovered that an ordinary metal standing rack fit almost perfectly upside down in the sink; all I had to do was bend the legs back 180° so they wouldn’t stick up and could also grab the sides. The bending was done by hand. Wire shelving can also work with a little adjustment. The results have been great, this utility sink rack is very strong and easy to keep clean.
Catch Drywall Dust When Drilling Overhead
Trying to drill a hole in a ceiling can be a messy business! Next time, grab a small diameter disposable cocktail paper plate and drill right through it. The plate will then catch most of the dust and debris as it drops from the ceiling. Make sure to use a small diameter or clear plate, otherwise you’ll find it very hard to align your bit.
Mash Avocado Onto A Sandwich for a Healthy Mayo Alternative
Mayo isn’t for everyone, particularly if you’re counting calories and/or health conscious. It turns out mashing a little avocado into your sandwich is an ideal (and tasty) mayo alternative, with no culinary skills required!
Slicing Strawberries with an Egg Slicer
Summer is a great time to eat strawberries ala carte, or as part of a fruit salad. However slicing them can be a pain. Use a standard egg slicer to slice strawberries to make your prep time more “fruitful!” For optimal results, make sure you cut off the stem prior to slicing.
Baseboard Cleaner
Spring cleaning those baseboards is a whole lot easier with this solution. First vacuum with an attachment to grab up all of the obvious dirt. Then mix 1 tablespoon of fabric softener with 1 quart of warm water for the ideal baseboard cleaner. Use a cleaning sponge dipped in your mix to clean any additional dust, dirt, or pet hair. The fabric softener will leave a clean fresh scent while repelling future dust with its anti-static properties.
