Chicken Wire Hat Organizer How to, Easy DIY

DIY Chicken Wire Hat Organizer

The joys of chicken wire! This often overlooked raw material is much more versatile than just caging your hens in it. In fact, there is at least one museum in the United States entirely designated to the history of chicken wire. Our chicken wire hat organizer is also great for hanging jewelry and pretty much anything else you can think of. I suggest using a large old picture frame.

The example shown is 18 1/2″ x 22 1/2.” Obviously the larger the frame the more hats you can fit. Be sure to wear protective gloves when working with the chicken wire. Cut the wire to up to 1/2″ larger than the edge of inside the frame, secure it with nails on the back. I also used felt over the edges of wire and nail heads to protect the wall from scratches. I like to use old clothes pins to attach our trucker caps to the wire.

Silver Cleaning Hack

Forget all that elbow grease! All you need for this MacGyver-style silver cleaning hack is baking soda, aluminum foil and boiling water…oh, and tarnished silver. Prepare a solution of 1/4 cup baking soda to a gallon of water in a pot. Bring to a boil. Line another pan or glass dish with aluminum foil, be sure it’s deep enough to fully immerse the silver piece you are cleaning. Place tarnished silver in foil lined container, then pour boiled solution over it. Allow to cool. Remove silver pieces and rinse with cool water, then dry with a soft cloth. It’s that easy! For extra tarnished pieces you may have to repeat a couple of times.

Floor Cleaning Hack, Forget the Mop Bucket!

forget the mop bucket

Forget the mop bucket! This is a great 10 minute floor cleaning hack, especially for dried up spills. Be sure to sweep the floor first. Find an empty spray bottle, fill it with a solution of your favorite floor cleaner (I love Murphy Oil Soap myself) and water. Read directions on floor cleaner bottle for proper measurements. Saturate entire floor with spray and let sit for 5 minutes in order to loosen up the dirt. Go over with a clean damp mop. I like to rinse the mop out once after this in the sink then go over the floor one more time to remove any soap residue…and it gets the floor extra clean!

DIY Picture Frame Chalkboard

This picture frame chalkboard is so easy! All you need is an old picture frame (any size will do) and black chalkboard paint. First remove the glass from your frame, then paint it. Put painted glass back in frame and follow directions on chalk paint for curing. To prevent chalk from “ghosting” or shadowing by seasoning it. Season chalkboard by rubbing full length of board vertically with side of white chalk, then do the same horizontally. be sure to cover board completely. Once you’ve done this, wipe with soft cloth or chalkboard eraser and blow away excess powder.

How to Make a Tree Branch Curtain Rod

Bring the outdoors inside with this free and easy hack! This is the perfect DIY project for all of you nature lovers, and the perfect window treatment refresh. Next time you go for a walk in the woods or have fallen tree branches in your yard, save a couple somewhat straight, approximately 4’+ x 1″ – 2″  thick branches. The length of branch will depend on the size of your window. Find a sturdy hook or curtain rod holder that the branch can fit in and strong enough to hold the weight of rod and curtain. Trim the branch to desired size, attach to hooks/curtain rod holders and voila!
